Weekly Lectionary Study Group

We meet weekly to explore the lectionary readings for the upcoming Sunday. Most weeks, we focus on one primary passage, while occasionally reflecting on how it connects with the other readings appointed for the day.

Before we gather, participants are encouraged (but never required) to read the selected passage using the practice of Lectio Divina. Whether you’ve prepared ahead of time or are joining us spontaneously, you are always welcome.

The Four Steps of Lectio Divina

  1. Read
Read the passage slowly and attentively, remaining open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Notice the literal meaning of the text, and pay attention to any words or phrases that stand out to you.
  2. Meditate
Reflect on the words or phrases that caught your attention. Ask yourself questions such as:
What might God be saying to me through this passage?
How does this relate to my life right now?
Take time to sit with the text and allow its meaning to settle into your heart.
  3. Pray
Respond to God by entering into conversation. Share your thoughts, feelings, gratitude, concerns, or questions, and ask for wisdom and guidance. This is a time to deepen your relationship with God.
  4. Contemplate
Rest quietly in God’s presence. Allow the insights from the previous steps to take root within you. This is a time of silent, receptive listening and openness to the transforming power of God’s Word.

We use a variety of Bible translations and enjoy noticing how different editions express the same passage. Our discussions are thoughtful, welcoming, and engaging.

We hope you’ll join us. All are welcome.
