Dear Members and Friends,

SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP

Come join us for worship Sunday November 10th at 9:00am, in person or Zoom. Rev. Charlotte will lead worship and Sean will bring us inspirational music. The message will focus on Mark 12:38-44. Jesus denounces the scribes and teaches on the widow’s simple offering. The poor woman, as a widow, would have had no source of income after her husband’s death. Therefore the two small copper coins were all she had – and yet she offered them to God. The rich, on the other hand, had a lot of money to spare. Worship order attached. Sunday School after the first hymn.  Zoom link below.  The flock waiting for the Church doors to open?

A POST-ELECTION PRAYER

Almighty God, in whom we live and move and have our being, we are in turmoil. Our nation is torn. We are all endangered by the great fissures that tear all your children asunder. Shelter us with your mighty wings. Shield us from the vitriol that seems to flow so freely. Grant us courage to reach out to our neighbors. Let us hear one another not just with our ears, but with our hearts. Still our fears and anger so that we may weave our nation together anew, guided by your boundless and patient love. We hold true in our words and actions Micah 6:8 “…and what does the Lord require of you (us) but to do justice and to love kindness and to walk humbly with our God.”  In Your tender mercy, hear our prayer.  Amen.

SPECIAL MUSICAL GUESTS

On the Sunday before Thanksgiving, November 24th, Mark Alan Lovewell and Molly Conole will return as our special musical guests (pictured). They sing, play guitar and other instruments, and tell tales of the sea through their maritime collection of New England sea shanties. They last joined us for the wonderful Menemsha Blessing of the Fleet in May.

The 11 part series is built around documentaries and texts that focus on Indigenous, Black, Latino and Asian-Pacific histories as they intersect with European American histories. Over 120 islanders participated in the first Sacred Ground program during COVID and are now encouraging others to take advantage of this second offering of the course that begins in January 2025.
