Autumnal Equinox Pew News

Dear Members and Friends-

SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP

Come join us for the Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost September 29th at 9:00am, in person or Zoom. Rev. Charlotte will be leading worship with Music Minister, Sean McMahon, who will introduce an original song When I Surrender. Sermon is titled “Stumbling Blocks” from Mark 9:30-37.

In the Bible, a stumbling block is something that can get in the way of a Christian’s growth or progress. It can also be something that causes people to err or lose their faith in Jesus. The Greek word for stumbling block is skándalon, which can also mean “trap-stick”. Worship order attached. Sunday School after the first hymn.  Zoom link below. Sunday School in need of Assistant Teacher help. Please consider volunteering for one or two Sunday mornings while we search for the permanent replacement. It is a delightful group of children and Claire, Lead Teacher, will have the lesson planned and ready – email Claire at cganz@live.com

Pizza Night resumes Tuesday @ 6pm October 1st!

Pizza Night at the Church is an informal meal where the community at large can gather for camaraderie and food. It starts at 6pm with pizza, potluck salads, desserts  and conversation followed by Bananagrams for those who want a game.  It’s free and all are welcome.

34th  Annual Martha’s Vineyard CROP Hunger Walk, Sunday, October 20th. Walk. Give. Change the World.

The annual MV CROP Hunger Walks have raised tens of thousands of dollars each year to benefit the poor and hungry around the world and on our own island.  You can join in either on Walk Day, Sunday, October 20th at 1:30 PM at St. Augustine’s Church or walk in solidarity on that same day wherever you are (especially for our many friends who love MV, but live elsewhere).  All walkers are strongly encouraged to register ahead and raise money in support of the fight against hunger. Invite your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers to this fun, family and dog friendly, and worthwhile activity.  Music by MVRHS Pep Band!  Follow us on Facebook, both about this event and hunger issues generally.  To join the Chilmark Church team, please contact Emily Broderick, team captain: erbroderick@hotmail.com / 508-662-4635.  Or you can register online at www.crophungerwalk.org/marthasvineyard. Twenty-five percent of the funds we raise will benefit the Island Food Pantry and the Vineyard Committee on Hunger in their services to the island.  The other funds will be used by Church World Service in the U.S. and globally for emergency food supplies, agricultural training, livestock, wells and pumps, farm seeds, and farm equipment. Last year 2023 MV CROP Walk raised $34,065. Please join us. Picture from 2018 walk!
