Dear Members and Friends,
SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP
You are invited to join us for the Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost August 18th at 9:00am, in person or Zoom. Rev. Charlotte will be leading worship with Sean McMahon, Music Minister. Sermon is titled “Complaints from the Crowd” from John 6:35, 41-51. Sunday School is available after the first hymn. Zoom link below. Covid-19 is having a summer island surge so please stay healthy. Masks and hand sanitizer are available in the church and we will keep windows and doors open for good air circulation. https://www.mvtimes.com/2024/07/18/island-hospital-reports-slight-increase-covid-19-cases/
Calling all Church Choir members. This Sunday after church (10:15) Sean will meet with the choir to rehearse the choral selection that will be sung on Sunday September 1. One more rehearsal is warranted. PLEASE NOTE THIS CHANGE
THE CHILMARK CHURCH CELEBRATION – SEPTEMBER 15th
We are planning an outdoor Celebration event for the church and our invited guests on Sunday, September 15th from 1-3pm. We will share our story of resilience, courage and faithfulness – past, present and future – with food, music and community. Music by Sean McMahon and food by Quitsa Cuisine (Teresa Manning). The church has worked hard over the past 2 years, so it is now time to celebrate that journey together. Though we are a small church on an island this “New Old Church” has a wonderful story to share of hope, strength, light and resistance. This painting, gifted by Allison Derusha in memory of her mother, depicts that story – church doors are always open for welcoming in and for going out in Christ’s service. Email invites have been sent out. Please RSVP by August 25th.

SEARCH COMMITTEE UPDATE
The Committee (Pam Goff, Sarah Carr and Sam Hart) is writing up a descriptive profile of Chilmark Church this summer. This is the first step in the Search and Call process for a new settled minister and will be circulated to interested candidates when completed. Advertising will begin some time in late September. Rev. Charlotte has extended her interim minister contract to June 2025 to assist the Search Committee with this very important process. The Committee would like your initial input on what characteristics you would most like to see in your next pastor. The form is attached and they are asking you to pick your top 5 traits and then rank those traits from 1 to 5 in importance. Feel free to add in any additional comments at the bottom or back of the page. There will be more time for community input and discussion in the fall as well. Please return by mail, email or in person by Sunday August 25th. Thank you for your assistance with this critical task.
