Dear Members and Friends-

SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP

You are invited to join us for the Ninth Sunday after Pentecost July 21st at 9:00am, in person or Zoom. Rev. Charlotte will be leading worship. Pam Goff and friends will be guest musicians in Sean’s absence. Sermon is titled “Rest Awhile” from Mark 6:30-34, 53-56 where Jesus instructs his followers to step away from the chaotic crowd. Sunday School is available after the first hymn. Zoom link below.

CAROL’S ISLAND FAREWELL

On Thursday July 18th we gathered for a memorial service and reception for Carol Loud, a long time islander and Chilmark Church musician.

Rev. Charlotte led the service and Phil Dietterich, organist, directed Sarah Bayer, flutist, and a blended choir in beautiful music from Bach to Vivaldi.

A potluck reception followed with tunes by Carol’s Ukulele group. Carol would have enjoyed her party! The memorial service order is attached.

GUEST PREACHER – SUNDAY AUGUST 4th

The Rev. Nell Fields will be leading Chilmark Church on Sunday August 4 in Charlotte’s absence. Some of you may remember her from when she preached here as a seminary student some years ago. Nell joined the Waquoit Congregational Church (East Falmouth) as minister in October 2010.  Formerly an editor and journalist, Rev. Nell spent the bulk of her career as a publisher for a LA publicly-traded newspaper company as well as in  management in technology and financial services. Since starting at Waquoit, Nell has started a number of new ministries on the Cape, including Safe Plates, an annual fundraiser for various social justice causes; the Waquoit Farmers Market;  a yearly Animal Blessing and Animal Fair for area nonprofit animal groups to raise awareness and donations; Falmouth Builds Together, a community-wide effort to provide the needed resources to help build Habitat for Humanity homes in Falmouth, and the state’s first “Death Café,” a monthly gathering for people to talk about that taboo subject – death.

It will be a delight to see her again while Charlotte is away to CT July 29th -August 4th. A 2010 photo with her therapy dog Goose.
