Dear Members and Friends,

She and Armen have three sons, two daughters-in-love, and two grandchildren, all of whom live on the island. Rev. Charlotte thanks everyone for the nice farewell celebration and thoughtful gifts. For those who missed it here is the website post of the after church party on February 16th: https://chilmarkchurch.org/service/index.php/2025/02/a-fond-farewell-to-charlotte-wright/
CONGREGATION MEETING SUNDAY MARCH 2nd 10am
The church has reached the point where all the HVAC conversion is done, insulation has been added and all systems are up and running. Chilmark Church is 100% heat pumps and off fossil fuels. As was discussed in the past, Phase 2 is to consider installing solar panels so that we can bring the church’s future electric bill to $0. We have received two proposals from recommended island companies – Harvest Sun Solar and South Mountain. Both are proposing a 1 roof system (Hall) which will service the 2 church buildings with excess going to Parsonage meter (Schedule Z). The proposals are both similar in design, output and cost of about $45,000. This total does not include the 30% Direct Pay incentive which is now in question because of Clean Energy federal cuts. Both companies promised panels would be in place by summer to maximize solar. There is a hybrid congregation meeting scheduled for March 2nd after church where this will be presented, discussed and ways of funding proposed. Sarah Carr will lead the meeting and Kathy Teel is looking into ways to finance. Please plan on attending to hear this presentation, bring your questions and weigh in on this Phase 2 clean energy solar proposal.
A NOTE FROM MV CROP 2024
Dear Friends at the Chilmark Community Church,
As we move through the depths of the winter, the MV CROP Hunger Walk is delighted to share the final results of our 2024 event which was a high point of last fall.
$41,130 was donated by an incredibly generous Island community. This is the most that the MV CROP Walk has ever raised, and a 20% increase over last year’s hunger walk. This is a wonderful and outstanding outcome! We’re so grateful!
Out of the funds raised, $10,282 will go to Island Grown Initiative in support of the Island Food Pantry, also the most ever provided. Over $30,800 will go to global efforts fighting hunger and poverty through the work and partnerships of Church World Service.
The community of the Chilmark Church turned out in person and with great spirit. The team raised a total of $2,850.02, a sweet 12% increase over last year’s total and third highest team total for the MV 2024 walk. On our walk day, 8 members and friends of the church turned out: Emily Broderick (and her family), Kathie Carroll, Shirley Kennedy, Sarah & Stefan Laux, Ann & Hal Noyes, and Charlotte Wright. It was a lovely day for a lively group from the Chilmark Church!
We’re so deeply grateful that because of you and your congregation, the MV CROP Hunger Walk can play a small part in helping others move out of hunger and poverty, both here in our community and around the world. Please share our appreciation and good news with your church.
In faith and service, Woody Bowman For the MV CROP Hunger Walk Committee
