Call to Worship

O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever.

Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, those he redeemed from trouble and gathered in from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.

Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wonderful works to humankind.

And let them offer thanksgiving sacrifices, and tell of his deeds with songs of joy.  Psalm 107 v 1-3, 21-22

*Hymn: # 102 “Now Thank We All Our God”

Peace

Confession  Let us invite God to bring us into God’s presence.

Have mercy upon us, O God, according to your lovingkindness.  According to the multitude of your tender mercies, blot out our transgressions.  Wash us thoroughly from our iniquities, and cleanse us from our sins.  For we acknowledge our transgressions, and our sin is ever before us.  Create in us clean hearts, O God, and renew a right spirit within us; In the spirit of Jesus, Amen.

(silent reflection)

Words of Assurance: The Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.

Concerns and Prayers

Strong covenant God, save us from being self-centered in our prayers, and teach us to remember to pray for others.  May we be so bound up in love with those for whom we pray that we may feel their needs as acutely as our own, and intercede for them with sensitivity, with understanding and with imagination.

Prayer of Dedication A Prayer of Saint Thomas Aquinas

Give us, O Lord, steadfast hearts, which no unworthy thought can drag downward, unconquered hearts, which no tribulation can wear out, upsright hearts, which no unworthy purpose may temp aside.  Bestow upon us also, O lord our God, understanding to know you, diligence to seek you, wisdom to find you, and a faithfulness that may finally embrace you;   AMEN
