{"id":6238,"date":"2021-03-27T08:11:22","date_gmt":"2021-03-27T13:11:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chilmarkchurch.org\/service\/?p=6238"},"modified":"2021-03-27T08:11:22","modified_gmt":"2021-03-27T13:11:22","slug":"palm-sunday-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chilmarkchurch.org\/service\/index.php\/2021\/03\/palm-sunday-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Palm Sunday 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-canvas-width=\"282.0499199999999\">Welcome to our Palm Sunday Worship Service.\u00a0\u00a0On\u00a0Palm Sunday we celebrate two different\u00a0aspects of\u00a0Jesus\u2019 life: his triumphant\u00a0entry\u00a0into Jerusalem and his\u00a0suffering, passion and death on the cross.\u00a0Today\u2019s\u00a0service\u00a0is a worship of Palm and\u00a0 Passion.<\/div>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"282.0499199999999\">\u00a0Palm\u00a0:\u00a0The first part of our worship\u00a0of Palm\u00a0is\u00a0triumphant. We celebrate with the wild crowd that\u00a0greeted Jesus\u00a0on his entry to Jerusalem\u00a0. They took off\u00a0their clothing and broke down branches and shrubs\u00a0and\u00a0throwing them on the road for Jesus and his disciples to\u00a0walk,\u00a0while they shouted,\u00a0\u201cHosanna\u00a0(save us now)\u00a0Son of David. Blessed is the one who comes in the name of\u00a0the Lord. Hosanna\u00a0(save us now)\u00a0to the highest\u00a0heaven.\u201d<\/div>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"249.98976000000005\">They greeted Jesus as their coming savior\u00a0king. There was much hope\u00a0and expectation in the Son\u00a0of David,\u00a0Jesus Christ\u00a0the Messiah.<\/div>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"249.98976000000005\"><\/div>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"55.43552\">Suffering,\u00a0Passion\u00a0and Death\u00a0:\u00a0The second part of our worship<\/div>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"81.90207999999998\">is about Jesus\u00a0Christ\u00a0the Suffering Servant\u00a0who gave his life to atone for the sin of the whole world.\u00a0Who is this Suffering Servant?\u00a0Christian theology teaches that the Suffering Servant is the messianic\u00a0figure\u00a0\u2014\u00a0identified as Jesus of Nazareth in the<\/div>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"256.09599999999995\">passion narratives of the Gospels of the\u00a0New\u00a0Testament. The Suffering Servant is the lamb that is taken to the slaughter, the sheep before its\u00a0shearer. The Suffering Servant is the one on whom\u00a0\u201cThe Spirit of the Lord rests, because the Lord has<\/div>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"622.6118399999998\">anointed him; he has sent him to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to\u00a0proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners.\u201d\u00a0In chapters 50\u00a0&#8211;\u00a054 of Isaiah\u00a0(known as\u00a0the suffering servant passage)\u00a0the Suffering Servant asserts that God has opened his ear and that he<\/div>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"483.99360000000013\">didn\u2019t rebel against God\u2019s call. He voluntarily gave himself up (says Ephesians 5:2\u00a0&amp;\u00a025):\u00a0\u201c&#8230;\u00a0I did not\u00a0hide my face from insult and spitting\u201d (Isaiah 50:6).\u00a0The Gospel writers understood Isaiah 50:6 to be a\u00a0prophecy that was fulfilled in the passion narratives of the Gospels.\u00a0The faithful Suffering Servant is\u00a0obedient to God\u2019s call despite undeservedly suffering\u00a0.\u00a0He\u2019s confident that he is doing God\u2019s will and\u00a0that\u00a0God will be with him (see vs. 7a and 7c of Isaiah 50) through it all. The Suffering Servant won\u2019t allow\u00a0himself to be thwarted from his God\u00a0-given task because of shame or disgrace. With God, he withstands\u00a0it\u00a0all. St. Luke 9:51 points out that\u00a0\u201cWhen the days drew near for\u00a0Jesus\u00a0to be<\/div>\n<div>\u201c\u00a0taken up\u201d\u00a0[\u201ctaken\u00a0up\u201d\u00a0a\u00a0reference to\u00a0Jesus being lifted up on the\u00a0\u00a0cross], he set his face steadfastly to go to Jerusalem.\u201d<\/div>\n<div data-canvas-width=\"120.55679999999997\">For some Christians\u00a0suffering is a testing of faith and commitment to God.
