Welcome to the first Sunday of\u00a0the Lenten\u00a0Season, 2021.\u00a0Lent is a forty\u00a0–\u00a0day potential season\u00a0of spiritual preparation for the seasons of Easter\u00a0and Pentecost.\u00a0It is a time of reflection,<\/div>\n
confession and self\u00a0–\u00a0examination. It is also the\u00a0time when we redouble our human efforts, with\u00a0the help of the Holy Spirit, to draw closer to God in\u00a0Christ Jesus.\u00a0Here at Chilmark Community Church, apart from our Sunday Worship, I have\u00a0circulated prayers of petition along with Pray Chart with suggested items for reflect and pray\u00a0for during this Season.\u00a0I am encouraging you to spend some special quiet time with God in the privacy of your own\u00a0home.\u00a0Jesus, we are told by St. Mark, got up early in the morning before daybreak and,\u00a0\u201cWent out to a quiet place and there, prayed\u00a0\u201d (Mark 1:35). Sabbath time\u00a0is time in quiet with\u00a0God!\u00a0I invite you to do all you can to make this Lenten Season a holy time of spiritual renewal. Let us\u00a0strive to be in a new spiritual place, nearer to God on the road of life by the time this Lenten\u00a0Season is ended and we arrive\u00a0at Easter Tide.<\/div>\n

The Baptism and Temptation of Jesus<\/strong><\/div>\n

One day Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee, and John<\/div>\n
baptized him in the Jordan River.<\/div>\n

As Jesus came up out<\/div>\n
of the water, he saw the heavens splitting apart and the<\/div>\n
Holy Spirit descending on him<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
like a dove.<\/div>\n
11<\/div>\n
And a voice<\/div>\n
from heaven said, \u201cYou are my dearly loved Son, and you<\/div>\n
bring me great joy.\u201d<\/div>\n
12<\/div>\n
The Spirit then compelled Jesus to go into the<\/div>\n
wilderness,<\/div>\n
13<\/div>\n
where he was tempted by Satan for forty<\/div>\n
days. He was out among the wild animals, and angels<\/div>\n
took care of him.<\/div>\n

Later on, after John was arrested, Jesus went into<\/div>\n
Galilee, where he preached God\u2019s Good News.<\/div>\n
