{"id":5756,"date":"2019-03-14T17:03:28","date_gmt":"2019-03-14T22:03:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chilmarkchurch.org\/service\/?p=5756"},"modified":"2019-03-14T17:03:28","modified_gmt":"2019-03-14T22:03:28","slug":"april-devotional","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chilmarkchurch.org\/service\/index.php\/2019\/03\/april-devotional\/","title":{"rendered":"April Devotional"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\"><b>May 2019 \u2013 The Price of Pride<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Read Together:<\/b><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He who ignores discipline despises himself, but whoever heeds correction gains understanding.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The fear of the Lord teaches a man wisdom, and humility comes before honor.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Proverbs 15:32-33<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">The story is told of a frog who wanted to travel over the top of a tall mountain from a pond he\u2019d grown up in and learned to hate to be a beautiful lake on the other side of the peak.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>One day as the frog watched an eagle soar high above the clouds; the frog had a brilliant idea.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>\u201cIf I could just get that eagle to hold a piece of string in his talons, I can hold the other end of the string in my mouth.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He could fly me to the other side.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>The eagle agreed to the frog\u2019s plan.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Away they went, hundreds of feet above the Rocky Mountain slopes, soaring to the other side where the big, sparkling lake lay just a few hundred yards away.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>As the frog hung on to the string by his teeth for the last minute of his ride, he heard someone below exclaim, \u201cWow, look at that.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>What a great idea!<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I wonder who thought of that.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">The prideful frog couldn\u2019t resist the opportunity to brag and opened his mouth to boast, \u201cI diiiiiiid.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Splat!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\"><span class=\"s1\">Poor frog.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He just couldn\u2019t resist telling people how smart he was.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Reminds me of myself sometimes and I want to kick myself for it.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>How about you?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Is pride ever a problem?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>If so, today\u2019s devotion study may be just what the doctor ordered.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Discussion Starters:<\/b><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>When you\u2019re complimented or commended for something you did well, how does it make you feel?<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Who really deserves the credit for any good we do here on earth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Lifeline:<\/b><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Next time someone tells you what a great job you did, give the glory to God.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>You\u2019ll feel wonderful!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Reflections<\/b>:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p8\"><span class=\"s1\">Blessings Always, (Numbers 6:24-26)<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p8\"><span class=\"s1\">Rev.
