\nRejoice, for God is with us — Emmanuel.
\nIn the darkness of our world shines God’s holy light.<\/strong>
\nNow there is reason to hope, to love, to laugh, to live.
\nGod is truly with us. We are not alone.<\/strong>
\nThanks be to God!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\nGracious God,
\nWith joy and thanksgiving we gather as your people.
\nWe have come to hear again the timeless story of Christ’s birth.
\nIn the excitement of this night, quiet our hearts
\nthat we may know the peace and fullness of this holy time.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n


\nShine, O Light, in the darkness of our world.
\nSing, O angels, in the stillness of our hearts,

\nAbove thy deep and dreamless sleep, the silent stars go by.
\nYet in thy dark street shineth the everlasting light.

Jesus is Born<\/strong>

Jesus’ Birth is Announced to the Shepherds<\/strong>
\nLuke 2:9-14 <\/span><\/p>\n

It Came Upon the Midnight Clear (<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/span> t<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span>he angel candles are lighted.)<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span>
\n<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>It came upon the midnight clear that glorious song of old
\nFrom angels bending near the earth to touch their harps of gold
\nPeace on the earth, good will to men, from heaven’s all gracious King.
\nThe world in solemn stillness lay to hear the angels sing. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/em><\/span>The Shepherds Find the Baby Jesus<\/strong><\/span>
\nLuke 2:15-18 <\/span><\/p>\n

The First Noel <\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/span>While congregation sings, the shepherd candles are lighted
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>T<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>he first noel the angels did say was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay.
\nIn fields where they lay keeping their sheep on a cold winter’s night that was so deep.
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Noel, noel, noel, noel. Born is the King of Israel
\nA<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>nd by the light of that same star, three wise men came from county far.
\nTo seek for a king was their intent, and to follow the star wherever it went.
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Noel, noel, noel, noel.Born is the King of Israel.
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>T<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span>hen entered in the wise men three, full reverently upon the knee.
\nAnd offered there in His presence their gold and myrrh and frankincense.

UNISON PRAYER OF RECONCILIATION
\nMerciful God, we confess that often we find darkness more comfortable than light. We confess that we find your good news frightening and unsettling, especially when we consider its demands as well as its promises.
\nGive us the courage to lay ourselves open to the wonder and healing of your coming. Be born again into our world, be born again into our hearts and lives. Hear now our silent and personal thoughts as we prepare ourselves for your nativity. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
