*Hymn 250 “Once in Royal David’s City”
Peace Let us greet each other with the Peace of Christ.
Gracious God, we have sought you in high and holy places; we are ill-prepared to acknowledge your presence among the lowly and poor. We believe you are profound but we overlook your obvious truths. We are anxious about the unknown but we hardly consider the realities immediately in front of us. Turn us, incarnate God, by the simple wonders of your love, to a rebirth of faith and hope and joy. AMEN Allen P. Happe
Proclamation and Praise : May the words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts be acceptable to thee, O Lord, our strength and our redeemer.
1 Samuel 2:18-20, 26;
*Hymn 2128 “Come and Find the Quiet Center”
Concerns and Celebrations Let us pray in silence.
Gracious God, we pray this day for all who have come with us to Bethlehem. We pray for those who are poor and cold and hungry like the shepherds, that they may hear good news. We pray for those who are wandering and searching like the magi, that they may find the place to leave their gifts and their burdens. We pray for those who are busy, hurried, preoccupied like the innkeeper, that they may know the peace that comes from a genuine act of hospitality. We pray for those like Herod who have power, that they may use it with good will. We pray for ourselves- we who each need comfort and peace, even joy, in this starlit season and all the days of our lives. AMEN
The Lord’s Prayer
Offering Like the Wise Men, let us Offer Our Gifts to God
Offertory Response sung to “Greensleeves”
*So bring him incense, gold, and myrrh, come, peasant, king, to own Him.
The King of Kings salvation brings. Let loving hearts enthrone Him.
This, this is Christ the King whom shepherds guard and angels sing.
Haste, haste to bring him laud the Babe, the Son of Mary.
*Hymn :242” Love Came Down at Christmas”
The true light that enlightens all has come into the world.
That light shines on in the darkness, and the darkness has never been able to put it out.
This is the good news: Thanks be to God!
